|  |  | Joseph Bonner Paul Jr. Joe joined the Hillside Funeral Service family in 2005. He serves as General Manager, Vice President, and Stock Holder. He is the son of the late J. Bonner Paul and Lillian G. Paul, of Washington. He brings with him 30 years of tradition, experience and knowledge in the funeral home industry to Hillside Funeral Service. Joe is a 4th generation Funeral Director. He is a graduate of Washington High School, class of 1971, and attended Beaufort Community College where he recieved his business degree. As a native of Washington, he is involved in the community and has been active for 45 years with the Washington Recreation Department playing and coaching numerous sports. He is a certified coach through the National Youth Sports Coaches Association, a member of the Beaufort County Grange #1233, and the Red Men's Lodge of Washington.Joe lives in Washington, along with his son, Josh, and is a member of First Christian Church of Washington, NC. |  |  | Joseph W. "Joe" Stringer Joe became a member of the Hillside family on November 1, 2006 as a Funeral Service Assistant. He has been spending his time learning the many and varied aspects of funeral service while continuing to serve the community as he has for the past 26 years. Joe is married to Cindy Stringer, a native of Chocowinity and has two teenage daughters, Hillary and Haley. Joe graduated from high school in Atlanta, GA and earned a BS in Criminal Justice from Georgia Southern University. The Stringers are active members of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church where, as a member of the Praise Band, Joe sings and plays guitar. | 
|  | Jackie B. Jarvis Jackie joined the Hillside Funeral Service family in July 2001. He serves as the Aftercare Director and Office Manager. Jackie lives in Washington. He has two daughters, Melissa Jarvis McDaniel, and her husband, Mark, and Carolyn Jarvis Todd, and her husband, Danny Ray and two grandsons, Tyler and Devin. Jackie is a graduate of Washington High School and continued his education at Roanoke Bible College, Pitt Community College, Wake Technical College, Beaufort County Community College and Fayetteville Technical Community College. |
|  | Michael D. Huppmann Mike joined the staff at Hillside Funeral Service in 2004, assisting with families and love ones in need of support. He was born in Washington, D.C., where he worked for The Federal Government. In 1987 he moved to West Virginia. Over the past 12 years he has been a volunteer for a Christian Organization, was a member of the local Volunteer Rescue Station in Winchester, Va. He was a certified EMT, a firefighter and chaplin with the squad, involved with local churches and hospitals. In 1994 he became a Patient Care Volunteer for Hospice and a lay Minister. In 2003 he was ordained to the ministry. In 2004 he and his wife, Connie, moved to Washington, NC. with expectations for doing ministry work. Currently volunteering for Asera Care Hospice, Community Hospice, Beaufort County Hospital, and assisting with the Pamlico-Tar Hospice house. Mike and Connie also have 2 children. Purser, “Greg” Greg has been affiliated with Hillside Funeral Service since 2001, bringing with him over 15 years of previous experience with other firms, including Paul Funeral Home where he served as Funeral Service Manager. Greg, a native of Beaufort County, is the son of Betty Dunbar Chandler and the late Charlie H. Purser of Chocowinity. Greg also resides in Chocowinity and is a graduate of Chocowinity High School, Beaufort Community College and Gupton Jones College of Mortuary Science with full credentials. Greg is a member of Trinity Episcopal Church of Chocowinity where he serves as usher and was a past Vestry member. He is also a member of the Washington Merchants Association and past member of the Noon Rotary, the Civitans, the Washington Country Club, Humane Society, Historic Foundation, and a member of the Washington Chamber of Commerce. Greg has also been a downtown merchant for several years. His hobbies include interior design, his animals, and gardening. |  |  | Barbara B. Mason Barbara joined the Hillside Funeral Service family in November 2001. She is the Co-Director of the Aftercare Support Group and responsible for handing the day -to-day office duties. Mrs. Mason and her husband, Jack Arliss Mason, Sr. reside in Bath. They have one son, Jay and his wife Michelle, one daughter Lee Anne Clark and her husband David, and four grandchildren, Ryan, Colby, Tyler and Alex. She is an active member of St. Clair’s Church of Christ, serving as treasurer for more than 30 years. In her spare time, she enjoys crafts and reading.
|  |  | Lexa Upton Lexa joined the Hillside Funeral Service Staff in July of 2006. She serves as office assistant, funeral service assistant, and monument representative. Lexa lives in Chocowinity. She has one daughter, Sabrina Jackson and her husband Terry of Rocky Mount. She has two grandchildren, Brittany and Christian, who have brought her much joy over the years. Lexa was married to the late William Upton. She is a graduate of Chocowinity High School. Lexa is an active member of the Piney Grove Free Will Baptist Church on Cherry Run Road beside the Voice of America, and has served as pianist since 2002. In her spare time she enjoys reading, playing the piano, sewing and crocheting. |  |  | Eleanor Hodges Jarvis Eleanor Hodges Jarvis, of Chocowinity, joined the Hillside Funeral Service family in 2001. She was married to the late Elwood Jarvis. She has two sons, Woody and Jim Jarvis and their wives, Joy Vreugdenhil Jarvis and Susan Taylor Jarvis, respectively. Eleanor’s grandchildren, Elizabeth Jarvis, Wells Jarvis, David Jarvis, and Alyssa Jarvis bring her many hours of happiness. She is an avid reader, works diligently in her yard and walks for exercise. Eleanor loves people and enjoys serving others. She is a member of First Christian Church in Washington and a member of the Beaufort County Grange, where she often assists in the kitchen. She is also a member of the Pamlico Seniors.
|  |  | Polly B. Miller My husband, Norman Miller and I, Polly B. Miller were the founding directors of the Aftercare Support Group sponsored by Hillside Funeral Service in 1998. Norman and I completed a 35 ½ year ministry at St. Clair’s Church of Christ in Bath, NC. We moved to Washington and began working at Hillside Funeral Service in 1997. Norman and I currently serve the Lowland Church of Christ in Lowland, NC. After a leave of absence, I have returned to Hillside Funeral Service in February, 2006 to continue serving the families of Beaufort County and surrounding counties. We have three children, Horace Norman Miller, Jr. and his wife, Penny, Gary T. Miller and his wife, Lisa and one daughter, Lori Miller Prescott and her husband, McVernon Prescott, III. We have seven grandchildren. |  |  | Lonnie Ray Davidson Lonnie joined the Hillside Funeral Service Family in February of 2006. He has lived in Beaufort County all of his life and is retired from National Spinning. Lonnie also played on the Company softball team for 16 years and also played basketball and volleyball for the company. Lonnie is married to the former Jackie Wingate and has one daughter, Melissa Rae Davidson of Washington, and one grandson, Bricen Lee Thomas Davidson. He is a member of the 9th St. Free Will Baptist Church in Washington, and past member of the Washington Moose Lodge. |  | | | Geary Winstead Geary, a native Beaufort County resident joined the staff of Hillside Funeral Service in 2006 as a funeral assistant. He is a member of the Beaufort County Community Chorus, The Loft choir at St. Peters Episcopal Church and the Washington Singles Club. Geary was a 1958 graduate of Washington High School and attended the Atlanta School of Art and Design, and Piedmont Community College in Charlotte. He is also on staff as Interior Designer for The Purser's Chest, Washington, NC. He retired in 2002 as Director of Design for Millers of Columbia, SC and returned to reside in Washington. He brings to Hillside his skills in care and planning, professionalism, and ease of dealing with people in difficult times. |
