                              William Harvey Cratch, Sr.

    Mr. William Harvey Cratch, age 69, a resident of 1000 Leggett Road, Washington died Tuesday, July 7, 2009 at his home.

    A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, July 10, 2009 in the chapel of Hillside Funeral Service with Rev. Gary Murphree officiating. Burial will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens. Michael Cratch, Stephen Cratch, Will Cratch, Sammy Hodges, Steve Leggett and Frank Parker will serve as pallbearers.

    The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 PM Thursday, July 9, 2009 at Hillside Funeral Service, 4500 Highway 264 East, Washington, NC.

    Mr. Cratch was born June 16, 1940 in Beaufort County to Lloyd Durwood and Virginia Stamper Cratch. On December 8, 1961 he was married to Bonnie Sue Leggett, the love of his life. Harvey served his country in the US Navy during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He retired in 2000 from PCS Phosphate after 331/2 years of service in the Bucket Wheel Department as a planner. He was also the owner of Cratch’s Furniture and Pottery. Harvey was a member of Wharton Trinity United Methodist Church and a past member of Wharton Station Ruritan Club. His five grandchildren were his pride and joy.

    In addition to his wife he is survived by one son, William Harvey Cratch, Jr.; two daughters, Susan C. Lane and husband Vern of Washington and Kimberly C. Woolard and husband Murphy of Washington; one brother, Durwood E. Cratch of Washington; three sisters, Carrie C. Brown and Stella C. Stancil both of Washington and Andria C. Gooch of Wake Forest and five grandchildren, Will (Willis) Cratch, III, Jessie (Little Scooter) Cratch, Mattie (Little Blue Eyed Girl) Lane, Zane (Big Buddy) Woolard and Dawson (Little Bad Boy) Woolard.

    In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, Lloyd Swindell Cratch.
