Mr. Albert John Loper, age 84, a resident of Slatestone Drive and a more recent resident of Ridgewood Manor, Washington, NC, passed away Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at UHS Beaufort Hospital. Per his request, there will be no local service. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date in East Hampton, NY. Mr. Loper was born on November 11, 1927 in East Hampton, NY, son of the late Jessie Loper and Barbara King Loper. He was a retired city worker in East Hampton, with 40 years of service. He also retired from the Amagansett Fire Department in New York. Mr. Loper was married to the former Arlene Miller, who survives. After retirement, Mr. Loper and his wife moved here to Beaufort County, where they have lived for the past 8 years. He attended Wares Chapel United Methodist Church.

In addition to his wife, survivors include his two step-sons, Kenneth "Ken" Miller of Bath, NC and Paul Miller of Washington, NC; and his step-daughter, Sharon Tallcott of Washington, NC. He was preceded in death by one sister.
