                                 Mr. Edward Newton Rodman

    Mr. Edward Newton Rodman, 81, of 122 Shady Banks Beach Road, Washington, died Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at the Beaufort county Hospital.

    A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, May 1, 2008 at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church with The Reverend Kevin Johnson officiating. Emily Ann Davis, Gregory P. Davis, Stephen T. Dark, Johnny Rodman, Doug Rodman, Ramos Manning, and David Rodman will serve as honorary pallbearers.

    Mr. Rodman was born October 20, 1926 in Beaufort County.  He was the son of the late Justice William B. Rodman, Jr. and Helen Farnell Rodman.  He was a lifelong resident of Beaufort County.  On April 15, 1979, he married Edith Underhill Dark, who survives.  

    Mr. Rodman graduated from Riverside Military Academy in 1944 and joined the US Navy, serving in WWII.  After WWII, he graduated from NC State College in 1950 with a degree in engineering. In 1951, he reenlisted in the US Navy as Ensign, and served in the Korean Conflict and was discharged in 1953.  After the Korean Conflict, he re-entered the University of North Carolina Law School and graduated in August of 1955.  Upon graduation from Law School in 1955, Mr. Rodman joined Rodman and Rodman, which was the forerunner of Rodman, Holscher, Francisco and Peck.  He retired from the firm in 2000.  He was President of the N.C. Bar Association in 1975-76.

    Mr. Rodman was a member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church where he served as a lay reader.  He was also a member of the Washington Kiwanis Club, the Washington Jaycees, and a Boy Scout Leader with the Boy Scouts of America.

    Survivors include his wife, Edith Underhill Rodman; two sons, Edward Ford Rodman of Ocean, NJ, and Thomas Blount Rodman and wife, Joyce of Durham, NC; one daughter,  Anne Rodman Helm and husband, Gregory of Cary, NC; one step-son, William T. Dark and wife, Joan of Raleigh, NC; two step-daughters, Jane Davis and husband, Philip of Zebulon, NC, and Betsy F. Dark of Cary, NC; one sister, Marcia Rodman Lawrence of Washington, NC; five grandchildren, Andrew, Sarah, and Jessica Rodman of Wayside, NJ, and Becky and Katie Helm of Cary, NC; three step-grandchildren, Stephen Dark of Winterville, NC and Emily and Gregory Davis of Raleigh, NC.

    He was preceded in death by two brothers, William B. Rodman, III and his twin brother, G. Farnell Rodman; one sister, Mary Helen Rodman Hill and his former wife, Nancy Ford Hodges.

    In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be directed to: Goose Creek State Park, 2190 Camp Leach Road, Washington, NC 27889.
